When Is an Extraction Needed?

Here are a few examples of cases when a tooth extraction in Pasadena is needed

If you are experiencing severe tooth pain, you might be worried you will have to pull or extract a tooth in order to relieve yourself. That may be the case, but it is important to know that our team at Walnut Hill Dental Group will only pull a tooth in Pasadena if it is necessary or requested. We will do whatever we can to save your tooth before suggesting teeth removal. Some of the reasons for an extraction include: severe tooth pain, infection, damaged teeth, gum disease and non-restorable tooth decay. Luckily, if you do need an extraction, we have options such as dentures and dental implants to replace your missing tooth. If you think you may need a tooth extraction in Pasadena, give us a call at (626) 796-0313 to schedule an appointment with one of our doctors.

How To Care For Yourself After Teeth Removal

Use these tips for your tooth extraction in Pasadena

Once your tooth has been extracted, you will probably want to know how to take care of your mouth and the area around the extraction. You can follow a few of these guidelines suggested by our dentists at Walnut Hill Dental Group. To manage the pain, you can use an over the counter pain medication like Tylenol, or use cold compression against your jaw. If your extraction is especially painful, the dentist may write you a prescription pain medication for your recovery. Once your tooth has been removed, your cheeks or jaw may swell up for a few days. Using cold compression will help with this also. When it comes to eating and drinking, be mindful of what you consume. Do not drink hot, caffeinated, carbonated or alcoholic substances for at least a day after your procedure. Most importantly, do not use a straw for a few days, as it could contribute to bleeding and aggravation of the socket. Also only eat soft foods like pudding, applesauce and others to avoid irritating your socket for a day or two. Slowly introduce regular food back into your diet. Lastly, in order to prevent aggravation of the socket, do not brush, floss or use mouthwash to clean your teeth for the first 24 hours. After that, make sure you are careful of where you brush and floss, avoiding the affected area until healed. If you have any questions about caring for yourself after a tooth extraction in Pasadena or any dental procedure, call us at (626) 796-0313 anytime. We are more than happy to help, and will be looking forward to your call!

Caring for the rest of your teeth after a tooth extraction in Pasadena is important, too

"After your procedure you will want to make sure you care for your oral health the best way you can. Make sure you avoid tobacco, especially chewing tobacco to help your socket heal properly. Last and most important, make sure you take proper care of all of your teeth to avoid tooth decay and other problems in the future. We know having to pull a tooth in Pasadena isn’t fun, and we want to make sure your mouth, teeth and gums stay as healthy as possible to avoid another one."
